GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

4th June, 1924.

I a more inclined to ask the Governor of Kenya first whether he has anybody he can recommend to whom the

offer of this appointment would be worth while. I am very doubtful about

these two gentlemen, considering the

rate at which they are drawing pay now.

I imagine that Hong Kong is distinctly more expensive than Kenya.

sir.

I have the honour to inform you that it

appears likely that in the near future vacancies will arise

in the posts of Accountant and of Superintendent in the Money Order Office of the Post Office in this Colony. The present holders of these posts, Messrs. A. J. Reed and

H. Dizon are both 59 years of age and the former is, I understand, not in good health. These officers were appointed locally and have 36 and 34 years' service

respectively.

The work of these two posts is of a technical:

and somewhat complicated nature and it is most desirable that a thoroughly trained man should be appointed. I should, be obliged, therefore, if steps can be taken to select an officer with experience in the accounting branch of post office work for the post of Accountant, as he will require several months with the present Accountant before he will be competent to take charge. I enclose the usual form of particulars of the office.

3.

It is proposed to defer until later the question of the appointment of a successor to Kr. Dixon in the Money Order Office,

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient humble servant,
